About the Artist

From her Minnesota studio and in her frequent travels, Debra scrounges for a collection of "interesting little things" at flea markets, antique stores and junk shops to create her imaginative series of art watches.

"My view of Art comes from the beauty and lasting memories of everyday things.  Some say life is in the details, I say life and art are in the everyday sacred.  I am a believer in the "ordinary " as "Art".   I use found objects and graphics in my collage jewelry to give "new life to old spirits".  Discarded game pieces, text from old children's books, antique typewriter keys, rusted tin, and shattered glass are some of the elements of my narrative style jewelry.

I particularly enjoy the contrasts of "precious" and "non-traditional" materials.  Although I received a fine jewelry education, my jewelry is not about the intrinsic value of the metal or stones.  To me, jewelry tells a story.  I hope people can make a personal connection to my work and give expression to their own story.

I also treasure old books.  My latest collection of prints are made from my original, large wall pieces.  I collage found antique books, worn leather, beautiful paper and vellum together on canvas.  I let the beauty of aged materials tell their new story.  I then create 6x6x2" prints mounted to deep wood blocks.
